Downsize Upgrade House

This is a story about downsizing; about aging gracefully and living fully, within your means in the place you love most - the existing garden of the family home.

The Downsize UpGrade House is a highly efficient 162m2  8.8 star home nestled in a beloved suburban garden.

The clients were after essentially two bedrooms, two bathrooms with a study (music room) and a studio for painting, one open living, kitchen and dining space that is connected to the garden, plus a generous garage space with incorporates handyman workshop and storage.  Importanly, the building footprint was to be no further than 16m fromthe rear boundary so not to encroach into the root system of the beloved walnut tree.

Built butting up to an old double storey stable (converted to garage & art studio), the new home is light, bright, warm and healthy, with a stepless entry making access easy.  Passive solar design, rainwater capture (14k litre), greywater reuse, environmental & healthy material selection and on site solar make the most of the site, and the house that is very cheap to run.
